(Annapolis, MD)  Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Naptown barBAYq Contest & Music Festival, to be held Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th, 2014 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, in Crownsville, MD. The Festival is a family affair and will feature a barbeque contest, great food, libations, over forty bands perform continuous live music from three stages, plus, activities for all ages and arts and crafts vendors. The People’s Choice competition will be held on Saturday, May 4th at 2:30pm.

With the generous support of the community and over 12,000 attendees, the Parole (Annapolis) Rotary Foundation, Inc., raised over $65,000 at the 2013 event, which was donated to local kid charities. According to Don Chomas, 2013 Festival Director, “The 2013 Festival was a huge success and we are looking forward to raising the bar even higher in 2014! We’re all working hard to make next year’s event even better…more delicious barbeque, more music, more kids’ activities…just more.”

The Naptown barBAYq is a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned event. Fifty-six teams competed in the 2013 barbeque contest and were awarded cash prizes and trophies in the categories of Chicken, Ribs, Pork, and Brisket.  The overall winner of the 2013 Naptown barBAYq and Grand Champion of Maryland was Jacked Up BBQ. The winner of the Peoples’ Choice Award went to Beer-be-que, with locally-owned Rusty’s Ribs N’ BBQ from Gambrills, MD taking second place.

In just three short years, the Festival has generated over $100,000 and provided grants to Anne Arundel Medical Center Pediatrics Emergency Inpatient Unit, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County, Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, and numerous other local children’s charities.

We are a service club that significantly improves lives in our local community and around the world by meeting real needs. Through the work we do at the Festival and all year long, our club makes a positive difference for youth today, so they will make a difference tomorrow, that’s our mantra summarizing our mission and goals, explains Henry Riser, 2014 Festival Director
