Get out your grooming gear, grab your glad rags and clear your calendars for May 14th, 2016. Weird NJ will be joining The Garden State State Beard & Mustache Society to help commemorate their five year anniversary by throwing a party to celebrate all things Weird and of course, all things Beard!

After four years of hirsute hijinks at the Asbury Lanes, The Garden State Beard & ‘Stache Competition will make it’s debut at it’s new home… the legendary Stone Pony. GSBMS Prez Matt Chrystal guarantees that it will be a party unlike anything you have ever been to (sorry, not a money back guarantees)!

Keeping with the tradition of packing in as much ridiculousness that can fit into one night, the show spotlights local artists and vendors and will turn the venue into a carnival-like atmosphere where sights and sounds abound! There will be bawdy burlesque numbers by the vivacious vixen Vivi Noir and sensational sideshow entertainment, all set to a surreal soundtrack. And then, the main event: a contest featuring fantastic facial hair, freaks and follies with fake follicles!

The contest will be adjudicated by a panel of guest judges, and boasts fifteen weird, wild and wacky categories with something for everyone… including Denim Vest in Show (a category for those that believe their choice of vest accentuates their face fuzz), Little Miss Yarn Face (women’s fake creative category) and even red headed step-children will feel included in the Soulless Ginger category.

And while not everyone will receive a participation award, there will be plenty of opportunity to rank amongst New Jersey’s pantheon of hairy heroes. You got to be in it, to win it! In addition to the 15 category winners, accolades will also be awarded for “The Smells Like Team Spirit Award,” “The Steph’s Sweet Spot Award,” “Bestest Beardo and Wackest Weirdo in Show,” “The Larry Philips Lifetime Achievement Award” and the all new “Spirit of Asbury Lanes Award.”

If all that wasn’t enough to whet your whiskers –– this year also features a reunion of Weird NJ and Beard NJ as Mark Moran and Mark Sceurman will join Verbal Tease (the voice of the Jersey Shore Rollergirls) and Adam Realman (Coney Island Icon) as the emcees of the evening’s epic event.

The 5th Annual Beard & ‘Stache Bash is currently being sponsored by Dark City Brewery of Asbury Park, Little Dickman Records, Big Slick Pomade and Pogue Mahone Tattoo Company, with haircuts and bear trims given on-site by Shear Revival Grooming Co. A portion of the night’s profits will be donated to a charitable cause soon to be announced.
