Unusual contest draws the crowds
THERE’S never been a gym quite like it.

Yesterday evening, smack outside busy Raffles City mall, leggy models were working out in a makeshift gym with clearwalls.

Instead of drab gym gear, these six models clad in briefs and sports bras demonstrated sporty moves by running on a treadmill.

And all that working out drew large crowds.

Shoppers, office workers and tourists gazed at the models who were part of a weekend roadshow to showcase Sloggi’s new range, Sloggi Athletes.

The roadshow also aims to encourage women above 18 to put their best butt forward by signing up for the Worldwide ‘Show Me Your Sloggi’ contest from now till 10 Aug.

The competition seeks to find the best female bottom in Singapore.

The winner, who will be selected by online voting and a judging panel, will represent Singapore in Paris against finalists from 30countries.

The local winner gets the all-expenses paid trip worth about $3,000, cash of $1,000, a year’s gold membership at California Fitness and a year’s supply of Sloggi products.

The global winner will get 15,000 euros ($32,160) and a Sloggi modelling contract.

Architecture student Nasuha Rahim, 19, decided to give it a shot.

The slim teenager, who was spotted by scouts, gamely perked her butt to pose for photographs at the roadshow.

Though Miss Rahim thinks her posterior is average, she said: ‘The prizes are enticing.’

BUMMY MUMMY

Mrs Sharon Ford, 35, a mother of three-year-old triplet girls, also signed up.

The working mum, who is in advertising sales, had read about the competition in a newspaper, but was surprised when scouts approached her because she feels her butt is ‘too flat’

While she thinks she doesn’t stand a chance at winning, she said: ‘It’s definitely different from the usual beauty contests.’

Miss Grace Flores, 20, a polytechnic graduate, felt having models in underwear was a good way of grabbing attention and promoting the competition.

Mrs M Joshi, 56, a teacher in India on holiday here, said: ‘In India, this is considered as showing too much skin, but I think it’s a good idea. I enjoyed myself.’

The competition is being held here for the first time, but the global competition is in its second year.

Ms Lorna Tio, vice-president of marketing at Triumph International, said the ideal winner should look wholesome and have a bum that is ‘perky, rounded and firm.’
